The Russell Group consists of 24 universities that are well established within the UK Higher 海角乱伦社区 system and describe their institutions as 'research-intensive' and 'world-class'. Two of these universities, Edinburgh and Liverpool, have seen a change in their student population since their 2015/16 submissions, with a rise in the number of privately educated attendees.
The Telegraph reported that despite increased efforts to invest in encouraging students from less fortunate backgrounds to apply, over a third of the 24 Russell Group universities have less state education students than they did four years ago. Statistically, during the gap between 2015/16 and 2020, Edinburgh's students from state schools dropped by 4.3% and at Liverpool, by 1.4%.
When spoken to, an Edinburgh spokesperson states that 'School background plays no part in [their] admissions decisions' with Liverpool University adding that they are 'absolutely committed' to admitting students from a wide range of backgrounds.
